1Password solved the hardest UX problem in security: making the secure path also the easy path. Autofill works reliably across browsers and platforms. The Watchtower feature makes security auditing feel manageable instead of terrifying. The family sharing model is genuinely well-designed. The v8 migration to Electron upset longtime users, but the cross-platform consistency it enabled was worth the trade-off. This is what security UX should look like.
What earns the score
- +Autofill is reliable across every platform
- +Watchtower makes security auditing approachable
- +Family and team sharing is well-designed
- +Onboarding is excellent for a security product
What holds it back
- –Electron-based app feels heavier than native v7
- –Vault organization could be more intuitive
- –Browser extension occasionally fails to detect forms
- –Pricing has increased significantly
