Hinge is the best-designed dating app because it understood that the format of the profile IS the product. The prompt system (voice prompts, photo prompts, written responses) creates profiles with actual personality, unlike the photo-grid-and-bio approach of competitors. The like-and-comment mechanic encourages thoughtful engagement over mindless swiping. The 'Most Compatible' feature shows genuine algorithmic effort. The rose system is a tasteful monetization mechanic. It's not perfect - the messaging experience needs work - but the core matching flow is excellent.
