Supabase took the Firebase developer experience - instant backend, real-time subscriptions, auth that just works - and rebuilt it on Postgres with genuine taste. The dashboard is one of the best-designed developer tools: the SQL editor is excellent, the table view is actually usable, and the auth configuration doesn't require a PhD. The documentation is a model for the industry. Where it struggles is at the edges - complex queries, advanced auth flows, and debugging real-time issues can be frustrating.
What earns the score
- +Dashboard design is best-in-class for BaaS
- +SQL editor and table view are genuinely useful
- +Documentation is excellent
- +Auth setup is dramatically simpler than alternatives
What holds it back
- –Complex query debugging can be frustrating
- –Real-time subscription edge cases are poorly documented
- –Advanced auth flows require workarounds
- –Pricing model has surprising cost jumps
