Coinbase's onboarding and initial purchase flow are clean. Buying your first crypto is straightforward. The experience degrades from there. The addition of DeFi features, NFTs, staking, and Coinbase Wallet has created a product that serves too many audiences without a coherent experience for any of them. The downward delta reflects recent UI changes that added complexity without solving existing navigation problems.
What earns the score
- +Initial onboarding and first purchase are clean
- +Security features are well-communicated
- +Educational content is well-integrated
What holds it back
- –Product sprawl creating navigational confusion
- –Fee structure is opaque and inconsistent
- –Advanced and basic features uncomfortably coexist
